  26. You have selected the Phone Auction System  (PAS) by Data Rx.
  27. This system will eliminate hours of scheduling auction bidders, worrying about
  28. whether or not you have omitted a client or lot number, or miscounted the
  29. number of people you need to man the phones. PAS will even retain pertinent
  30. client information on an auction to auction basis: customer number, address,
  31. phone.

  33. The purpose of the system is to provide Richard Wolffer's Inc. with an
  34. automated method for identifying:
  35.  
  36.         (1) Clients bidding by phone, including client and paddle #, name,
  37.             address and phone to be reached at during the auction;
  38.  
  39.     (2) Specific lots of interest by client, individual or ranges of lots;
  40.  
  41.         (3) Number of phone lines required for the auction - configurable
  42.             based on the     zone interval provided by the auction
  43.             representative;
  44.             and
  45.  
  46.         (4) Optimal assignments of phone personnel by bidder # - also
  47.         configurable  based on the zone interval  provided by the auction
  48.         representative.

  50. Installation Hardware Requirements

  52. Make certain you have the following equipment:

  54.         IBM PC/XT/AT/386/486 compatible computer
  55.         Hard Disk of 20 Meg minimum
  56.         Any monitor (CGA,EGA,VGA,SVGA)
  57.         400 KB RAM
  58.         2 Meg of free hard disk space

  64. Working with the PAS System

  68. PAS is a complex system consisting of FoxPro database files for populating
  69. and maintaining the auction data base and some executable modules written
  70. in C to address some advanced functions that FoxPro does not support.

  74. To run the program type :  PAS (This starts a batch file called PAS.BAT)

  80.                 An initial system introductory logo menu will appear.
  81.                 Just press any    key to continue.

  83.         The Main menu appears. It has three options:
  84.  
  85.                 (1)     Data Base Manager
  86.  
  87.                              Manipulates the database of client
  88.                              information (Add, Delete, Search,
  89.                              Edit, etc)
  90.  
  91.                 (2)     Function
  92.  
  93.                              Opens the next menu which
  94.                              processes the client database
  95.                              produce assignments of
  96.                             personnel, start a new auction, etc)
  97.  
  98.                 (3)     Quit

  100.                             Allows you to exit the program

  102. You may stay within the data base manager to enter all customer and lot
  103. identification as well as editing, searching, adding and deleting all fields
  104. that appear in the data base for a specific auction.
  105.  
  106. Editing of Customer Number (and internal control number assigned by the
  107. auction house) and Paddle ID is performed to make sure that you haven't
  108. entered duplicates. Lot numbers that the customer is interested in may be
  109. entered as well (and edited, added to, deleted, etc.) either singly or in
  110. ranges,  e.g. 4 - 67.

  112. All customer data resides in the data base for the entire auction. A new
  113. auction may be entered into through the Function  submenu. 
  114.

  116. Please note that the current version of the software only allows for 2 digit
  117. Paddle ID's. This was done on the basis of current client activity and computer
  118.  resource efficiency. This means that up to 99 phone bidders can be scehduled
  119.  for any one auction. Later versions of the software can be expanded to handle
  120.  up to 999 phone bidders.

  124.                 When you select Functions from the main menu you will have
  125.                 the          ability to perform five actions.

  129.                 (1)     Full Scan
  130.                                       Allows you to see and print customer
  131.                                       option opens the final submenu.
  132.                 (2)     Manual Scan
  133.                                       Same as above except it is
  134.                                       you need to know about a single lot.

  136.                 (3)     New Auction
  137.                                       This option erases lot information                                            from  the data base in preparation
  138.                                       for starting a new auction phone
  139.                                       bid process. Use this only when
  140.                                       you have finished one auction and
  141.                                       are ready to start a new one

  143.                 (4)    Zones
  144.                                       This option divides all lots into
  145.                                       zones  or intervals, e.g. 1-50 ,
  146.                                       51 -1 00, etc and provides
  147.                                       information on who needs to be
  148.                                       called within the zone interval.

  150.                                       This option opens the final
  151.                                       submenu
  152.  
  153.                (5)     Assigns 
  154.  
  155.                                       This option assigns the phone
  156.                                       personnel to specific bidders
  157.                                       in the    optimal fashion. This
  158.                                       option also opens the final
  159.                                       Submenu.

  162. The final Submenu allows auction personnel to update, view and print the
  163. various files produced by the system.

  165. You may update, view or print the following three files:
  166.  
  167.                 (1)     Full Scan               Provides a screen image or
  168.                                                 print capability to
  169.                                                 see the entire auction customer
  170.                                                 activity for  phone bids.
  171.  
  172.                 (2)     Zones                   Provides the ability to change
  173.                                                 the zone interval as well as
  174.                                                 view and print zones. This is
  175.                                                 especially  valuable when
  176.                                                 auction personnel  wish to see
  177.                                                 how changes in intervals will
  178.                                                 affect the assignment of
  179.                                                 personnel.

  181.                 (3)     Assign                  Provides a screen image or
  182.                                                 print capability to see how
  183.                                                 the phone bidders have been
  184.                                                 assigned for the auction
  185.                                                 (based on the current zone
  186.                                                 interval).

  188. Once PAS is Installed

  193. Do not run the PAS system from other programs like Norton Commander  or Windows.
  194. We configured PAS for the quickest job but it requires a lot of RAM
  195. (at least 400K to run efficiently). If you are short of RAM please tell us and
  196. we will reconfigure the software at no cost to you; however it will work slower.

  199. Another major point of note is data entry of lots. Because of the nature of
  200. FoxPro the lots must be entered in a specific way. The lot numbers are entered
  201. as columns to allow the software to operate scanning functions that are
  202. particularly applicable for those customers who are interested in a range of
  203. lots. An example follows:

  214. In any event, always be careful when entering data. In the final analysis
  215. we have provided you with an extremely sophisticated tool.
  216. The person responsible for running the system will have the most discretion on
  217.  setting  Zone Intervals, and therefore, assignments of people.
